Little Boy No More

I miss having a baby boy this small… we would say, “nose to nose!” and would do like this.  Now that Roi  is 5,  he doesn’t like to do this anymore! :(  He would say, “Mama, only married people do that to each other !” — LOL!

Roi at 5

Our boy is already 5 but we have a hard time keeping him focused on his reading and writing. I guess he needs some motivational activities. He will be starting school next week, and is quite excited about it. Let’s just see how he goes.

I am looking for other activities for him: I just learned there are swimming lessons going on at a pool nearby that runs twice a week. He seem to be musically inclined so I’m not sure if piano lessons would interest him. I really want him to choose what he likes and in the long run, discover more of his potentials.

Maybe I would get him a nintendo dsi in the future, if he does well in his studies. I want to make sure that he has developed good study habits, and that he does his homework all the time. Reward systems really work for kids, so I guess I have to save up for this treat.

Halloween Treats!

We’re still a long way off from Halloween but the kids seem to be excited about trick or treating. Come to think of it, we are in Thailand and the custom is quite far from non-Westerner kids, but the kids here actually do trick or treat.

Our friends’ kids were actually invited by neighborhood kids last year to go from house to house and they wore costumes, too. At that time our kids were still in the Philippines but they were told how fun it was so that kept them excited. This got me thinking, what should I give kids who would come to our house?

Each trick or treater would be happy to have one gourmet halloween candy in hand, I’m sure. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d say it’s the greatest treat they’ve got in years!

Another wedding

Perhaps one of the things that I really hate about being away from our home country is missing out very important events like  weddings.  I love weddings!  I love that feeling of being a part of two people’s very important event of their lives.  Not to mention of course that I love dressing up, putting a make up on and meeting old friends.

Towards the end of this year I will be missing yet another wedding.  How many have I missed in the almost two years of being away?  Now I lost count.  Sigh, sigh. And oh, did I mention that this couple that’s getting married are two very special people in the sense that hubby and I sort of introduced them to each other? And we have a very important role in the wedding itself.

Although we could not go, we will try our best to send something special for them. Maybe a bridal lingerie for the bride? Good idea! :)

Nostalgia #3: Our church young people

Before we left for Thailand, hubby and I were pastoring a youth group in our church of about 150 people. I greatly enjoyed working with the youth, seeing them grow spiritually and just being a part of their decisions, from small and petty to major ones.

These photos were taken during an activity with the key leaders. I remember it was pouring hard and we were in the field, just having fun and sharing our hearts out. I just miss having heart to heart conversations with them. But I am just happy that even now, many of them are still in touch through facebook and I am happy how the ministry have helped them grow into the professionals that they are now. I am proud of them, and I miss them so bad!

Road accidents

Road accidents are a real problem in countryside high ways where vehicles just go full speed.  In as much as motorists are trying to be very careful, it always happens. What is tragic is when cars get hit by big trucks.  Obviously these drivers and their passengers would likely to suffer from trauma, or for some, death.

These trucks are owned by huge companies and are more than capable of hiring lawyers that could easily get them out of the situation clean. Now that’s really tragic, isn’t it?  Because many times these victims could not afford to hire a lawyer for financial constraints.  Fighting against these tycoons and their lawyers would be a challenge!

This is the reason why there had to be Texas truck accident lawyers. With these highly skilled and trained lawyers, justice will be served for those who have suffered road accidents, particularly those who have been hit by big trucks.

Nostalgia #2: Jollibee Palabok

Ok, I know.  I posted banana cue last time and now this.  Please pardon me, I have not gone home to the Philippines in a year and I am still suffering from “withdrawals” from pinoy food—- and nostalgia, BIG TIME!

High Risk?

There are two groups of people who find it hard to get themselves insured: those who are always exposed to hazardous activities because of their occupation or those with hobbies that expose them to constant danger like rock climbing, sky diving and many others, and another group would be those have terminal ailments. These people are called high risk. If you are one of these, this is good news for you. Just because you are considered high risk does not mean you will not be able to avail of good insurance services.

Mind you, you still deserve that protection and you definitely deserve the best.

A credit card

There are advantages and disadvantages of having a credit card.  Honestly I think I would like to have one.  It just takes lots of self control not to go over the limit, though.  I am not sure if I would be able to handle that well, but I am thinking more on the convenience of having a card and not having to bring cash all the time.

Having visa reward cards would be great, especially. There are so many rewards you can enjoy. Earning cash back, free gas, are among the things you get. You could even earn points for every purchase and before you know it, the rewards that come along with it could give you the biggest and one of the pleasant surprises!

I am not much of a shopaholic, and I don’t want a credit card so I can enjoy an amazing shopping spree. I think that having one nowadays is not just a luxury but it is actually a necessity. As to when I will have my own credit card, I really don’t know but meantime, I just pray that my wallet does not run out of cash! :)

Bananacue

I was scanning through old photos on facebook and I came across this.  Bananacue.  This is my all-time favorite Filipino snack, and I miss it so bad.  There are no bananas like this here in Thailand.  All we have are table bananas which are not even as delicious as the ones we’ve got in the Philippines. I feel nostalgic.  The bananacue stands are definitely one of the places I’d like to go to when I go home!
